I’m making more and more of my pantry items.
Over the years I’ve learned to make more of the items in our pantry.
Here are nine items I no longer buy.
- Powder Sugar: Instead of buying, I put organic cane sugar in a blender and blend. Within a few seconds to a minute, you’ll have powdered sugar.
- Light or dark brown sugar. Brown sugar is just the sugar with the molasses of cane sugar left in it. Instead, I mixed organic pure cane sugar with molasses. I replace brown sugar with the same amount of the molasses and sugar mixture. I use 1/2 cup of sugar to 1 tsp of molasses for light brown sugar.
- We don’t buy or drink already made drinks such as soda, Gatorade, etc. Instead we drink tea, coffee (which we have to buy), make kombucha, yogurt drinks, milk, flavored water. We use fruits and veggies in our flavored water.
- Milk products. The only milk product we buy at all is cheeses, which I don’t make yet. We milk our own cow, make ice cream, kombucha, some cheese, yogurt, and Kiefer.
- Vanilla extract. We buy the vanilla beans and the alcohol, but I make our own vanilla for cooking. I also make our own mint extract.
- Many medicinal tinctures. I’ve learned to make tinctures for health and getting healthy. Many of the herbs I use for these tinctures we grow.
- Baked good and treats. Instead, I make cookies, ice cream, brownies, crackers, etc.
- Bread and flour goods. I only use Einkorn flour. I make our own bread, rolls, bagels, biscuits, noodles, plus baked goods.
- Lotions. I no longer buy lotions from the stores. I either make them myself or swap with friends who make lotions made from tallow, coconut oil, and herbs.
By not buying, I’ve also simplified my pantry. For instance, since I only bake with Einkorn flour, I no longer have to buy, store and hunt for different flours such as hard wheat, soft, and durham wheat. I am saving money, being healthier, and less clutter too.
Start replacing one item at a time so you too, can benefit.
